Urgent Cares of America is Proud to Have the Following Professionals Serve on it's Board of Advisors:

DR. MELVIN G. LEE, M.D.:

Dr. Lee is a Board Certified Family Practitioner (Canada) with 26 years of experience in Family Practice; Obstetrics, Urgent and Emergent Care, and Occupational Medicine. Prior to joining RUCN, he served as the President of Metro Memphis Physicians Group – a network of six urgent care clinics that staffed eight full-time physicians, three full-time nurse practitioners, and four part-time physicians. Dr. Lee served as a Physician for Urgent Care Baptist Minor Medical in Memphis, Tennessee from 1997-2004 before accepting this promotion.

From 1981-1997, Dr. Lee owned and operated his own Family Physician practice in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada. This office based Family Medicine practice specialized in Obstetrics, Emergency Room On-Call services, Hospital Admissions and ongoing Hospital Care, house-calls, and Nursing Home care.

Dr. Lee is a member of the following associations:

· Board Certified American Board of Ambulatory Medicine

· Member of the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine

· Member of the Urgent Care Association of America

· Board Certified College of Family Physicians of Canada

· Member of the American College of Family Physicians

· Editorial Board Member, Journal of Urgent Care Medicine

Prior to his career as a physician, Dr. Lee was a Captain in the Canadian Royal Navy where he served as a Crew Commander and pilot for the Submarine and Coastal Patrol from 1969-1974.

 

 

REV. MIKE SAFLEY:

Dr. Safely currently serves as the Vice-President for Church and Community Relations and Minister to the University at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC.  Prior to accepting this appointment in 2006, Dr. Safley served in numerous executive and ministry capacities throughout North Carolina, including stints as President/CEO of Methodist Home for Children (1997-2005), Vice-President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Methodist College (1987-97), and as the Associate Director for North Carolina Conference Council on Ministries for Youth and Young Adults (1982-87).  In 2005, he was presented the "Order of the Long Leaf Pine" by former Governor Mike Easley - the highest honor given to a citizen of the state of North Carolina.


Dr. Safley received his Bachelor of Arts from Methodist College in 1972, and his Masters of Divinity from Duke University in 1975.  In 2002, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities Degree from Methodist College.


 

LANNY D. BYNUM, CPA:

Lanny Bynum, CPA is a founding partner of Burns & Bynum, CPA and Consulting and leads the financial, accounting and strategic consulting specialties of the firm.  After beginning his career with the international CPA firm, KPMG, he accumulated over 25 years of diverse financial and strategic operational experience in the corporate world in Chief Financial and Operating Officer positions, within several industries of various sizes ranging from start-ups, to companies under $20 million in revenue,  to over $3 billion international companies.   Career specialties include financial turn-arounds, restructuring companies on extremely fast growth curves and older well-established companies and initiating start-ups/early stage companies.  While Lanny has a diverse and wide range of experience with all size companies, his heart and passion has always been with small and medium size companies.

Lanny is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and serves on a number of local Boards of Directors and is involved in several community, charitable and Christian based organizations.

 

 

PALMER SCHOCH:

Mr. Schoch has a B.S. in Education from the University of Michigan.  Additionally, he has undertaken graduate course work in Accounting, Financial Management and Policy, Business Management and Marketing toward his M.B.A at the Eastern Michigan University.  He has over 27 years of experience at Nortel Networks, Inc., where he participated in financial planning and analysis, budgets, results reporting, cost accounting, capital asset management, general ledger accounting, and production planning.  He has the ability to analyze complex results data to identify and effectively communicate bottom-line opportunities to senior management.  He has led teams in process improvement and multi-million dollar cost reductions.


Additionally he has extensive experience in the Non-Profit sector providing oversight to the operations & finances of several organizations, the formation of a community service 501(c)(3) and the creation and direction of a week-long summer camp experience for Foster children in Wake County.


He recently completed three-years as UCA, Inc.’s Finance Controller during which time he provided finance and accounting infrastructure support and development  as the company expanded from four to eight urgent care clinics.  He currently serves as the Executive Director of Ministry Operations at Hope Community Church in Raleigh, NC where he is in charge of the finances, facilities, information technology, human resources and communications of the organization.
